House System

Our house system includes students in seventh grade and up, with siblings placed in the same house. New students are assigned to their house at the end of the previous school year.

While the house system’s origins are rooted in the boarding houses of British schools, its benefits have long been recognized by institutions around the world. A house system provides opportunities for leadership, competition, and camaraderie while fostering school tradition, culture, and spirit. Ascent Classical Academy believes that a house system will offer our Upper School students a unique sense of belonging and identity as they pursue the true, the good and the beautiful. Our aim is to lay the foundation for meaningful traditions that will endure for years to come.

Each of our six houses represents one of our core virtues and is named after an author whose works convey that virtue. The seventh virtue, Wonder, is represented by the Wonder Cup.

ACANC Houses

  • Austen, House of Prudence
  • Dickens, House of Justice
  • Homer, House of Courage
  • Lewis, House of Responsibility
  • Tolkien, House of Friendship
  • Virgil, House of Moderation

Students will have opportunities to earn leadership positions within their house and to plan and participate in volunteer activities and school social events sponsored by their house. Social events begin in the summer, with each house hosting at least one event for its members. Throughout the year, house members will be able to earn points for their house through acts of service or virtue that go above and beyond what is typically expected. The houses will also compete through various intramural competitions to earn points towards the Wonder Cup during Wonder Days.

Students must meet all extracurricular eligibility requirements to hold a leadership position or a House office. Students must also meet behavioral eligibility requirements in order to participate in House activities. Students may participate in House activities even if they do not meet academic eligibility requirements.
